CAN I LIVE BETTER?
Jeremy and I went to a funeral yesterday, April 23rd. It was for his coworker who was a great mentor. It was one of the best funerals I've ever been too. There was a good feeling in the room. It wasn't super sad or depressing. As several people mentioned it was a celebration of life. Listening to people speak about how good of a man he was made me really think what would people say about me? What could I do better? It also made me realize life is too short and can end quickly so enjoy it, cherish those you love and play lots of jokes..... I mean smile.
This great man got sick fifteen years ago and had to be on oxygen all the time. He never let that stop him. He was always helping out. Then less than a year ago he got cancer, the same kind my aunt had. He still stayed positive. He still never complained. His last words to his wife and girls was "I love you". His youngest daughter is in high school. That means almost all her life he was on oxygen and he still did lots with her and her sisters.
I only met him once but I hope I can be half the person he was. I hope that at my funeral people say half the good things about me as they said about him. I know I have a lot of things I could change. So I'm going to make it my goal to improve myself. And I say " Thank you" to him for not only being a mentor to Jeremy but for being a great example to me.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
There is this show on T.V. called "What Would You Do?". It hides cameras and hires actors/actresses to act out different situations and see how people in the general public would respond. Last night we were at Wal-Mart and Jeremy was looking for the hidden cameras. He thought what was happening had to be a trick.
We went to Wal-Mart to get some stuff to set up our garden. As we are walking towards the front doors we see this lady parked in the handicap stall open her door and yell to the dog on a leash running in the parking lot. We ask her if it was hers, I thought it had jumped out of her car. She said, "No, but I'm afraid it will get hit." The dog ran to a cement pole and marked it. It was there long enough for me to get close to it and step on the leash before it ran away. The poor dog wanted to go into the store, we thought the owner must be inside somewhere. So we tied it to the fence by Garden Center. Jeremy went inside to Customer Service and asked what they could do. The lady said not much.
We did our shopping, the whole time thinking about the poor dog. I thought about bringing it home for the night and in the morning taking it to the pound. BUT what if it was sick, I can't risk my dogs' health. The dog looked to be well loved, it had a soft coat and looked healthy. Someone was going to be missing this dog.
On our way to the car we stopped by to see if the owners had found it. No such luck. There was a lady and a girl there petting it and giving it some water. We talked to her for a couple of minutes but then she had to go, the rest of her group was done shopping. SO, we are standing here next to this dog that is so cute trying to figure out what to do. We can't leave it tied to the fence it will die, we can't just let it go it would get hit, and we can't take it home because we need to think about our dogs first.
As we are standing there feeling lost on what to do another lady walking to the store stopped to help us figure things out. She has two dogs and can't take it home for the night. We sat there petting the dog and brainstorming what we could do, for like 20 minutes. An idea was to can Jordan River Animal Hospital and see if we brought the dog in if they could scan it for a microchip. It was late and all shelters and other vets were closed, AND because we use them for emergencies we had their number in Jeremy's Ipod. Jeremy borrows the other lady's cell phone and calls.
" YOU LITTLE STINKER, I'M GOING TO KICK YOUR HAIRY BUTT!!!!!" As Jeremy is talking to the guy at the animal hospital we here this from across the parking lot. The owner was inside Wal-Mart with I'm assuming her mom and son. She came running over to us, asking where we found him. She had left him is the car and thought the window was up enough he couldn't jump out. She was so happy that he was safe. Jeremy said' " It is no problem. It is what we would want for our dogs." She seemed to understand that we are fellow dog lovers.
We are so pleased how it ended, and played out. IF we would have just taken the dog home that poor lady would be still looking for her dog. If we were at Wal-Mart a minute earlier or later would we have seen the dog to help it? I feel we were meant to be there to help out. We were at Home Depot looking at stuff for the garden and the prices were good on stuff but I had a "thought" to go to Wal-Mart.

FIRST CONFERENCE
Yesterday was Alma's first time going to General Conference in the Conference Center. I was so happy that we were able to get tickets. I thought it would be really special to go right after he was baptized. I just hope in four years we can get tickets to the priesthood session, that will be right after he gets the priesthood.
There was a couple of protesters, you could hardly hear them. You could hear the people singing hymns better. I insisted that we walk down the sidewalk between them singing. It is so AWESOME, the spirit is so strong. Our little detour put us farther from our door but we were fine with that.
After conference was over I asked Alma what he thought of it. His reply was simple, " It was good.". It is the drive home that made me smile. He started to say that he usually doesn't pray after Jeremy leaves his room at night but last night ( Saturday night) he did. He prayed that his back would get better ( will explain that at the end). I pointed out to him that Jere said that morning (Sunday morning) it was healing quickly. And that the flap of skin that we thought might need to be cut off most likely will be fine as well. I as told him that he was acting like a very mature boy by going to the lord in prayer. It was a great teaching opportunity. It still brings tears of joy to my eyes.
BACK STORY: Saturday he was outside in PJ pants and no shirt ( as normal, that kid hates clothes). He was running around the backyard. He ran behind the barbecue and cut his back on the hinges. Because he is so skinny his vertebra stick out and that is where he was cut.
The redness around the outside is from the tape.
